What is occupational therapy?Occupational therapy is a client-centered health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through supporting successful participation in meaningful everyday activities (occupations). Occupational therapists are uniquely able to support the whole family by addressing self-care, household tasks, leisure activities, social participation, play, education, health management, rest & sleep. At EAT PLAY REST, Allyson provides comprehensive occupational therapy services tailored to meet individual needs. The process begins with an initial assessment where we evaluate the client’s physical, environmental, mental, and social abilities. Based on this assessment, we design a customized intervention plan that includes therapeutic activities and exercises, environmental modifications, and education to improve daily living skills. Allyson is committed to a collaborative approach, working closely with clients, their families, and other health professionals to ensure that therapy plans are effective and holistic.

How do occupational therapists support mothers?EAT PLAY REST is dedicated to empowering mothers as they navigate the challenges of motherhood. Allyson provides compassionate, individualized support that focuses on enhancing well-being and promoting self-care. Allyson helps mothers develop practical strategies to manage daily responsibilities, from childcare and household tasks to personal wellness. She emphasizes the importance of mental health, offering tools to reduce stress and build resilience during the postpartum period and beyond. Through skill building, task/environmental modifications, resources and education, Allyson creates a nurturing environment where mothers can thrive. Occupational therapists have a holistic approach that makes sure you have the resources and confidence you need to care for yourself and your family.

How do occupational therapists support infants/children?Occupational therapy can support children with bottle/breastfeeding, rest and sleep, toileting, bathing, dressing, play, social engagement, emotional regulation, sensory processing and developmental milestones.

What is the difference between an occupational therapy session and coaching?OT sessions address specific physical, mental and developmental challenges assessed by a therapist to treat the conditions impacting daily function. The treatment is tailored based on client needs, strengths and goals. OT focuses on achieving specific functional goals by uses a variety of therapeutic interventions such as skill building exercises, sensory integration techniques and adaptive strategies. Formal documentation of assessments, progress and outcomes are completed. Coaching at EAT PLAY REST support clients without diagnoses or specific conditions to enhance confidence and skills in parenting and family wellness. Coaching focuses on facilitating personal growth and skill development. Topics may include time management, stress reduction, role/identity transitions, boundary setting, mindful parenting techniques and supporting developmental milestones. Coaching does not include formal assessments and documentation.

What does an OT session look like?Our first session is an initial evaluation where we review intake forms, complete any evaluations and screenings and discuss therapy goals and plan of care. Sessions are 60 minutes and are in the home, community or virtual.

Do you take insurance?OT and coaching services are private pay. Upon request, a superbill can be provided for OT services as an out-of-network provider.

Where do you provide services?Allyson is a licensed occupational therapy provider in Texas and California. She is able to provide telehealth services if you are located in either state. Allyson is located in Austin, TX for in-person visits but you can also do telehealth if preferred. Coaching sessions are completed virtually worldwide.
